Character Model base done

soo got the base of my model down and its ready for detailing, time to make it would have been roughly a a day and half. had some trouble with the legs but finaly cracked it so heres 3 pictures of my character, gunna start detailing sometime soon.

Well I have been working on modelling the head for my character some slight changes to the actual sketch witch I will later re-draw to keep up to date with my model.

First of all, the Additional Research/inspiration

I am currently looking at more insects for more ideas on my character recently I have been drawn to the ‘Prawn’ from District 9








and the Xindi from Star Trek Enterprise






Now here’s the head model, it too roughly 2-3 hours work it will rely heavily on textures to give it a better detailed look although I could spare the polygons

I will be modelling a gas mask for my character. Here are some pictures of some masks. The gas mask will be Human made but will have Alien Enhancements, I will explain this in a later post but for now here’s my research on the masks

New Module, Character Design.

Recently we started Character Design so I have been looking at some of the Quake and Half-Life Character’s.

Strogg Gladiator (Quake 2 and Quake 4)


Strogg Tank-JR (Quake 3 Quake Live)


Alien Grunt (Half-Life/Opposing Forces/Blue-Shift) This is the High Defination Version (Blue-Shift)


Corporal Adrian Shepherd (Half-Life Opposing Force)


I’ve also looked at the Babylon 5 Sci-fi Series for some inspiration too, looking mainly at the Minbari. Perticulary the bone at the back of there heads witch i have used for my character.


and insects for a colour scheme. this will be applied to the armour due to his race being similar to an insect. this will mainly be done with textures and specualr maps

So I started sketching some basic silhouettes that people recognise, this was just to get me in the mood of drawing and this is what I came up with


I am still currently drawing more silhouettes to add to my portfolio and this project, hear are some of my ideas











Also some Items that my Character will carry and was created by his species,he also will be able to pick up human weapons. My character will carry a variety of Items,

1. Gun Drone, this is basicly a floating turret witch will provide the character with cover while he works on hacking or repairs.

2. Gel, this gel is kept in a device to keep it in a jelly state, they character can use this gel to form items such as lock picks, small Knives and patch repairs for his body armour

3. Power Fists, he will use these for close combat, but they also have a small but powerfull weapon inbeded in the top part. The weapon uses a sharp bullete that is equiped with a small homeing device witch will allo the bullete to track its target

And my finale design, witch when you brake it down will be recognisable as Adrian Shepherd Strogg Gladiator Alien Grunt and a Menbari basically I took elements that I liked from these 4 characters and put them into mine, still tinkering with the idea a little to make him more unique, I am going to give him a more insect this can be accomplished with textures mainly and by adding a few hairs or hooks? I still have to update my finale drawing with these small changes so stay tuned enjoy

Corridor update

Well! I have just finished the corridor texture. I'm actually pleased with my texturing work on it :O, there are a few little tweaks, but they won’t take 5 min's. Anyway here's some shots of it (only 2 ;P, also had to redo the UV map :( had stretching areas, but, I fixed that with 3 quick slices and a new map. Enjoy!!

Just a small development today really, almost finished my floor panel, started working on the corridor windows, and picked up my corridor walls again. Anyway here's what I have of the corridor window so far, has a Alpha and Diffuse, the Hex Grid will hopefully be an emissive map once I get it into UT3. Enjoy!!

Specular Map

Specular maps... just some more images of the same pictures as below, but with a different specular map. Really liking how the texture is turning out. Here’s the new specular map, basically I made the blue more matt, and the scratches should look brighter then the last pictures. Enjoy!!

Floor Panles

Right ladies and gents trying to get out of my comfort zone as it where and get some texturing done, personally I think I need ALOT of work on texture.

These first lot of images are to show my progress on the texture, I have alot of work to do on them yet.





Just a basic floor panel with both Bump and Specular maps, again alot of work needs to be done to them, but this is just to show a bit of my progress. criticism and comments welcome.

First Blog

I'm here by initiate a Trail of Possession for this blog spot who dare oppose me?... lol joking :) started a blog today, hopefully I'll get stuff uploaded to it later tonight working hard on texturing my assets right now so I'll grab renders of those and stick them up, then you lot can help me improve :).
